Privacy Policy
Effective and last updated: September 2, 2026
1. Who We Are
SpeakMercury is operated by Ivan Del Rio. This policy explains how SpeakMercury (“SpeakMercury,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use the macOS app, website, account, checkout, and support services.
2. Speech and Transcripts
Speech recognition runs on your Mac through Apple's SpeechAnalyzer framework. SpeakMercury does not send microphone audio or dictated transcript content to our servers. Optional AI cleanup uses Apple's on-device Foundation Models framework.
If you enable Save History, the app stores up to 50 recent transcripts as plain text in a local history.jsonfile inside the SpeakMercury folder in your Mac's Application Support directory. The history contains text, dates, and character counts, not audio. You can disable future history saves or clear saved history in the app. The --full uninstall option also removes local settings and history.
3. Data Stored on Your Devices
- App settings are stored locally in macOS preferences.
- The desktop app stores your email, authentication tokens, and cached purchase status in the macOS Keychain.
- When you sign in on the website, the website stores your email, user ID, and authentication tokens in browser local storage so you can stay signed in. Signing out removes this browser entry. Clearing your browser data removes it as well.
4. Account and Purchase Data
We collect and process the information needed to run your account and license:
- Email address, internal user ID, authentication provider, and login tokens.
- Purchase records such as purchase status, email, user ID, Stripe customer ID, and Stripe checkout session ID.
- Messages and any information you choose to send when requesting support or a refund.
Authentication requests are processed through our website and by Supabase. We do not intentionally log or store plaintext passwords. Stripe processes payment card and billing information. We do not receive or store full payment card numbers.
5. Website Data
The site does not currently include an advertising or product analytics SDK. Our hosting provider, Vercel, may receive standard request data such as your IP address, browser and device information, requested URL, timestamps, and error or security logs. Supabase and Stripe may use cookies or similar storage when needed for authentication, fraud prevention, and checkout. We do not use this information for cross-site behavioral advertising.
6. How We Use Information
- Provide sign-in, purchase verification, downloads, updates, and support.
- Process payments, refunds, fraud checks, and transaction records.
- Protect the service, diagnose errors, and comply with legal obligations.
- Enforce our Terms of Service and resolve disputes.
Where applicable, we process this data to perform our contract with you, comply with law, protect our legitimate interests in operating and securing the service, or based on consent when consent is required.
7. Service Providers and Disclosures
We use these providers to operate SpeakMercury:
- Supabase for account authentication and purchase records.
- Stripe for payments, refunds, and fraud prevention.
- Vercel for website hosting and server functions.
- GitHub for app downloads and software update files.
- Apple for on-device speech, operating system permissions, and local frameworks.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights or safety, or as part of a business transfer. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
8. Retention
Local transcript history remains on your Mac until you clear it or remove it. We keep account and purchase records while needed to provide your license and downloads, and afterward as reasonably necessary for refunds, fraud prevention, tax, accounting, security, dispute resolution, and legal compliance. Support messages are kept as long as needed to answer the request and maintain appropriate business records. Provider retention periods may differ under their own policies.
9. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the data we handle and rely on established providers for authentication and payment processing. No internet transmission or storage system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Your Choices and Rights
Depending on where you live, you may ask to access, correct, or delete your personal information, receive a portable copy, restrict or object to certain processing, or withdraw consent. We may need to verify your identity and may retain information when law or a legitimate legal need requires it.
Email us to make a request. You can also clear transcript history in the app, revoke macOS permissions in System Settings, sign out to clear the website's stored session, or clear browser storage. Because SpeakMercury does not currently use cross-site advertising or analytics trackers, it does not separately respond to browser Do Not Track signals. Third-party checkout and authentication providers control their own tracking choices.
11. International Processing
Our providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Those countries may have different data protection laws from your country. Provider privacy notices describe their transfer safeguards in more detail.
12. Children
You must be at least 18 years old to purchase SpeakMercury. A minor may use the app only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who accepts the Terms. SpeakMercury is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child provided us with personal information, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the product or law changes. We will post the revised date here. If a change materially affects how we use information already collected, we will provide additional notice or seek consent when required by law.
14. Contact
